5-Bullet Friday — Creeping Cats, Superhuman Nepalis, Using Mice to Beat Ticks, AI Design, and More

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

Short animation I’m enjoying

Love, Death + Robots’sFor He Can Creep(S4E8)
I’ve watched many episodes of LD&R, but I somehow missed season 4, so I’m making up for lost time. The official description of Love, Death + Robots: “Terrifying creatures, wicked surprises and dark comedy converge in this NSFW anthology of animated stories presented by Tim Miller and David Fincher.”

If you don’t have Netflix, check out the breakthrough animated film Paprika, whose mind-bending plot and visuals pushed a generation of animators to think bigger and go stranger.

Documentary I’m watching

14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible. From the description: “Fearless Nepali mountaineer Nimsdai Purja embarks on a seemingly impossible quest to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in seven months.” The film was directed by Torquil Jones and executive produced by Nimsdai Purja, Jimmy Chin, and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. You can watch the trailer here.

Nimsdai and nine other climbers sadly perished in an avalanche a month ago in an attempt to summit the 12th highest mountain in the world. Climb on, Nimsdai.

Science I’m tracking

Scientists have a bold idea to fight Lyme disease: Change the mice(60 Minutes). In a recent edition of 5BF, I asked you all about scalable technologies for eradicating Lyme-carrying ticks. Subscriber Tyler pointed me toward a recent 60 Minutes segment about a research project on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. To catch up on the team’s progress since the segment aired in 2025, check out the Mice Against Ticks website and this paper in Nature Communications.

What I’m reading

How to turn your AI into a world-class designerby Anshu Chimala on Lenny’s blog. Anshu led software engineering and design teams at Apple for 12 years.

From the article:

Technique 1: Use seed strings to inject variety

The idea here is to get the model to find a new source of inspiration for designs, rather than relying on the defaults it learned from training. If you’ve tried to prompt a model to design a website or app, you’ve probably already seen what that default looks like.

One technique for this is String Seed of Thought,
published by Sakana AI. We make the AI generate a random string and use it as design inspiration. That way, the model is truly making different decisions each time.

Prompt:

I want you to build me a landing page for my productivity app.

Follow this procedure:

1. Generate a long, random alphanumeric string using a shell script.

2. Define the creative direction (color scheme, layout, typography, etc.) based on the string. Look beyond the surface for subpatterns, special numbers, anything that inspires you.

3. Use your judgment to bring this direction to life and make it look great.

Don’t reveal the string in the design. It’s only for your inspiration.

Quote I’m pondering

“Most of us tend to take our thoughts and ideas as actual descriptions of reality.”

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my new compilation episode, featuring tools, tactics, and inspiration from Terry Crews, Tim McGraw, Janna Levin, and more to help you turn failure into success.

And, as always, please give me feedback on X. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim
